Promethean 25th Issue | 4th Quarter 2023

Last October 19-20, 2024, the faculty participants of USTP Jasaan and Balubal embraced an inspiring mission: to explore the intricate art of crafting assessment tools tailored precisely to their academic terrain. Their expedition into the realms of assessment development promised not just insights but indispensable resources, finely honed to suit the unique contours of their scholarly pursuits.

September 6, 2023— The Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning (CiTL) conducted a CDIO Showcasing with the faculty members of USTP Panaon and Oroquieta. Faculty Members from the different departments of the Campus immerse themselves in the vibrant tapestry of innovation as talented artists showcasing their works with the application of the CDIO Framework.

Last June 26, 2023, the Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning (CiTL) held a Learning Continuity Review Program Orientation with ALL STUDENTS across the system. The program serves as a Re-Orientation for the students and the CITL's way of ensuring that students understand the purpose of the said program and its importance in the continuous quality improvement efforts of the University.

March 22-23, 2023- the Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning (CiTL), in partnership with Human Resource Management Office (HRMO), administered a 2-day Design Thinking Training Workshop with the theme "Scampering with Design Thinking" for Staff Batch 1. The training participants were selected staff of each office of the Procurement Unit, Auxiliary Unit, and Human Resource Office (System and CDO).

The Teaching awards winners held the flare of excellence as they wore their long gowns and suits during the Teaching Excellence Awards 2022 last December 12, 2022, at Dr. Dicardo E. Rotoras Memorial Hall USTP. Exceptional faculty members from Various USTP satellites gathered in one event to celebrate their excellence in teaching and innovation.

Every day, instructors face difficulties such as understanding students' various learning styles, ensuring that the course curriculum contributes to the students' overall learning picture, and addressing challenges with flexible learining. On the top of that, their teaching abilities must consistently improve and develop to address the need for teaching and learning.

The pandemic caused universities to close premises, and the inadequacies and inequities of the education systems continued. Online and flexible learning substituted the face-to-face madlity raising questions about the values of education in the university.

A year after its implementation, the Learning Continuity Review Program (LCRP) incessantly advances the university's approach to sustaining quality education and fostering excellent teaching and learning. The program substantiates if the outcomes are attainable and 'continuous quality improvement' is distinguished.

As CiTL continues to amplify and improve instruction in USTP, a series of Basic CDIO training with CPD units set off on February 14, 16, 18, 22, 24, and March 7,  2022, for the  College of Engineering and Architecture CoS and newly hired faculty members via ZOOM. This training series envisioned an education that underscores the fundamentals and the context of Conceiving-Designing-Implementing-Operating systems and products.

Walking on the red carpet, the winners, coming from all over the USTP system, of the four categories of TEA looked dashing, oozing with excellence for the TEA 2021 awarding ceremony last December 1, 2021, at the Ricardo E Rotoras Hall, USTP.

CiTL intensified training for Design Thinking-Trained faculty members with the Upskilling Design Thinking for Pedagogical Approach last September 28, 29, 2021 via Zoom.

CiTL launched its first-ever online course, Faculty Onboarding Career Upstart Seminar (FOCUS) last August 23-24, 2021 via EdApp. FOCUS Online was first introduced to the faculty members of USTP-Claveria campus on August 23, 2021, and via Zoom, and to Cagayan de Oro campus Faculty members on August 24, 2021.

The University of Southern Philippines( USeP) and the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines ( USTP) collaborate for the Conceive-Design-Implement-Operate (CDIO) training. The two universities agreed to partner as USeP draws up their plan of becoming a CDIO collaborator in Mindanao.

The trail for excellence in teaching is now open as the Teaching Excellence Award (TEA) nominations officially opened last June 15, 2021 . Spearheaded by the Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning, TEA aims to give significant merit to faculty in the USTP system who have shown highlcany distinctive pedagogical practices.

CiTL reintroduces the Conceive-Design-Implement-Operate (CDIO) framework to USTP-CDO Faculty members last March 18-19, 25-26, & 29, 2021. Aside from the workshops, the faculty members gave their reflections and insights on the important learning they have from the previous talks and discussions.

Everyone has gone helter-skelter when the pandemic suddenly hit us. With everything that's going on, ensuring that our mental state is healthy is a top-most priority. As such, CiTL has initiated Calmness Amidst Chaos, an online event dedicated to rekindling and re-invigorating work-life balance of the faculty members.

USTP instructors shared their innovative Flexible Learning Experiences to the USTP community last October 28, 2020 via Zoom. Dr. Cordulo P. Ascaño II, Engr. John Rey B. Bajuyo, Prof. Juliet B. Cagampang, and Mr. Giovanni B. Cagurin, shared their best practices in conducting online lectures which effectively engaged students.
