Surigao State College of Technology : Retooling Faculty for Flexible Learning

CITL team held a webinar series of Continuous Faculty Retooling on Teaching Flexible Learning via Zoom Application last March 24, 25, and 26, 2021 to the faculty of Surigao State College of Technology. The webinar hoped to address the challenges that the teachers of the College of Technology in SSCT experienced as they conduct Flexible Learning sessions in this new modality of learning. “Several faculty are minimally capacitated in terms of strategies necessary for Flexible Learning.”, Dr Marilou Carnicer, COT Dean said during her opening talk. She also added, “… if we choose to embrace stagnation over development no amount of money or school reform is going to improve.”


Engr. Rojien Morcilla gave his talked about on how important CDIO framework and redesigning the course syllabus during the Webinar 1.

Dr. Amparo Vedua-Dinagsao talked about on how to develop an effective Course Module and course Guide during the Webinar 2.

The webinar is a series of seven (7) webinar sessions. On the first webinar, Engr Rojien Morcilla discussed Making the Constructive Alignment in which the participants revisited their course syllabi and determined the non-negotiable course outcomes.

Mr. Arvin Narvaza shared his knowledge on alternative learning tools in this flexible learning during the Webinar 4.

During webinar 2, Dr Amparo Vedua-Dinagsao and Mr. Arvin Narvaza gave a talk on Writing the Course Module and Averting Intellectual Property Violations. Engr Aileen Sieras gave a lecture on creating a PowerPoint with narration, subtitles, and chosen video for Webinar 3.

For Webinar 4, Mr Narvaza and Engr Lloyd John Estampa shared Techniques and Strategies on Moving face-to-face to Online to Engage Students in Asynchronous Sessions.

The training will continue on April 6,7, & 8 2021 for webinars 5,6 &7.

Continuous Faculty Retooling on Teaching Flexible Learning for Surigao State College of Technology (SSCT) resumes with Webinars 5,6, &7, 2021. During this second set of the webinar, Mr. Narvaza gave a workshop experience in creating/ editing a video lecture using mobile phone and other tools. On the next day, Dr Dinagsao shared her expertise on creating rubrics for assessing students'a performance and how to automate rubrics using MS Excel, Google Sheet, and Google Form. Lastly, Mr Narvaza together with Dr Dinagsao demonstrated creating assessment using the google form with an emphasis on submission of students' task and some strategies.

The CiTL Team together with Dr. Marilou Carnicer for the closing remarks of the 7-webinar sessions for the Surigao State College of Technology.

Before the training ended, Dr Carnicer, Dean of College of Technology, SSCT, said that they look forward for another session as they have observed a “drastic and holistic improvement” as a result of the said webinar.
