9-day Basic CDIO Training for USEP faculty members

Basic CDIO training with the University of Southeastern Philippines ( USeP) was a 9-day training held last July 5-8, and July 12-16, 2021 via Zoom.

Basic CDIO training included five (5) components which are CDIO as Context, Integrated Curriculum, Design and Build, Designing Active and Experiential Learning and Evaluation of Programs. The components were discussed and explained in depth; identifying the attributes of the graduates that are relevant to the programs of the university, adapting the curriculum development and teaching learning activities to the exisiting program, and identifying key activities that were salient to the implementation of the CDIO framework into their specified programs were emphasized by the CDIO Trainers during the 9-day training.

The faculty participants were also asked to do workshops, related to specific components tackled, every afternoon during their asynchronous sessions.

5-day Advancing CDIO Training for USEP faculty members

Advancing CDIO Training on the other hand focused on evaluating the existing programs and identify areas where CDIO can be applied, evaluating the alignment of the teaching and learning activities to the outcomes of the programs, creating a plan on the application of CDIO teaching and learning activities in the class, and creating a sustainability plan in applying CDIO in the programs.

Engr Rojien Morcilla, highlighted on the process of advancing CDIO as future-focused, purpose-driven, design-led and quality-minded and Engr Aileen Sieras shared on the innovative and conducive learning space while Engr Lloyd Jhon B Estampa emphasized on the importance of Academic mentorship, peer mentoring, community of practice, and industry engagements in sustaining the quality of programs.

After these training, the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) hopes to become one of the CDIO collaborators in Mindanao. And through this trainings, USeP took the first step of understanding and recalibrating their programs to be CDIO-compliant and with continuous effort and partnership with USTP, their aspiration is not far-fetched.
